Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand
All of our vineyards and wineries are certified under Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ), reflecting our commitment to responsible winegrowing and continuous improvement across environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
Established in 1995, SWNZ is one of the world’s leading wine sustainability programmes and helps guide best practice across nearly the entire New Zealand wine industry. Certification includes regular independent audits, annual reporting, and a commitment to continually improving the way vineyards and wineries operate.
The programme focuses on six key areas — climate, water, waste, soil, plant protection, and people — encouraging responsible vineyard and winery practices that support healthy ecosystems, efficient resource use, biodiversity, and the wellbeing of those who work within the industry.

At Spinyback, sustainability is about thinking beyond ourselves. While our time here may be brief, the choices we make can leave a lasting impact. From responsible winegrowing to supporting conservation, we believe great wine should be crafted in a way that protects the landscapes, wildlife, and ecosystems of Aotearoa for generations to come.
Our operations are powered by 100% renewable electricity, and we use lightweight glass bottles to help reduce the carbon footprint of our wines. These choices are part of a wider commitment to creating a more sustainable future for both our industry and our environment.
As a brand inspired by the Tuatara — one of New Zealand’s most iconic native species — conservation also sits at the heart of what we do. Through every bottle of Spinyback, we proudly support projects focused on habitat protection, predator-free sanctuaries, biodiversity restoration, and long-term monitoring of Tuatara populations across Aotearoa.
